Cause Inspired Media Attends Florida’s First Job-A-Palooza!

Last Friday, June 22nd, Cause Inspired Media was happy to attend the Arc of Jacksonville’s Job-A-Palooza!

The Arc of Jacksonville has been a champion for the inclusion of persons with unique abilities since 1965. Their main mission is to “serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential to participate in community life.” In keeping with this mission, The Arc of Jacksonville hosted Florida’s first Job-A-Palooza! Cause Inspired Media was honored to participate in such a fantastic event. This one-of-a-kind job fair provided students and young adults the opportunity to learn and improve job skills while also showcasing their unique abilities to local businesses.

Prior to the event, all registered businesses were tasked with developing a “workstation” highlighting a job task that a potential employee would be required to complete. Then, at the event, the students (between the ages of 14-21) would practice the task, and compete against their peers. As a digital marketing agency, we wanted to create a unique and creative task that would also require a certain degree of critical thinking.

Some examples of other workstations included, but were not limited to:

  • Food industry: Rolling silverware, cleaning and sorting menus, busing tables
  • Grocery Store: Sorting cans, shelving, bagging groceries
  • Office: Shredding paper, assembling mailing packets

Our Cause Inspired Team decided to create a “Keyword Contest” in which the students would match various search terms with relevant ads. We decided to project Google search advertisements on to a magnetic white board, where students would then place search terms that we had previously cut out. We then decided that we would give each student one minute to match as many relevant keywords with the appropriate advertisement as they could. The student with the most matched terms in the allotted time would be selected as our winner.

On the day of the event, we arrived with plenty of time to set up our equipment and get to know some of the student participants. Everyone involved with the event made a lasting impression on our team with their kindness, attention to detail, and passion for The Arc’s mission. Despite the fact that this was the first Job-A-Palooza in the state of Florida, the event ran seamlessly, as over 60 students got to test their existing talents, and learn new skills.

During the event, it appeared that the students enjoyed our keyword contest just as much as we enjoyed officiating our booth. Some students even brought their friends to our booth to add more intensity to the competition. We ended up selecting a young man, Bradley, as our winner after he successfully matched 30 keywords with relevant ads in just 60 seconds! We were so proud to be part of this wonderful event, and can’t wait to participate next year!
